Signal Transmission: The sensor internally converts detected mechanical position changes or distance variations into electrical signals.
Depth Control: The main controller receives the sensor's signals and compares them to the desired depth or slope value set by the operator. The controller then sends commands to adjust the planer's track or milling drum hydraulic cylinders, achieving fine-tuning of the milling depth to ensure a very smooth milled surface.
2. Types and Operation
Depending on the type of reference it detects, this sensor typically comes in two forms, and the name "String Controller" strongly suggests it is primarily designed for mechanical stringline reference:
Mechanical Sensor / Sonde: Equipped with a movable mechanical arm. During operation, the arm rests directly on the reference wire stringline or curb. The up-and-down movement of the arm is converted into an electrical signal. This is the most classic and reliable leveling method, especially suitable for projects requiring high precision.
Non-Contact Ultrasonic Sensor: Measures the distance from the sensor to the road surface reference (e.g., existing surface) by emitting and receiving ultrasonic waves. This method does not require setting up a physical wire, making setup faster, but its accuracy and anti-interference ability may be slightly lower than the mechanical type.
The "String Controller" may refer to the entire control unit that integrates the function of receiving and processing signals from the mechanical sensor.
