Shanghai, China — Benit has added the RM54408778 material retaining side plate and left screed side assembly to its stocking programme for asphalt paver screed systems. The part is built for VB78, VB88 and VDT-V78 screeds, where the left outer edge of the screed box takes the heaviest abrasive load and is usually the first component to lose its profile.

On a working paver, the material retaining plate holds the asphalt mix inside the working width while the screed floats on the mat. Every tonne of mix that passes the outer edge drags across that plate. Once the working face rounds over, two things happen at the same time: material escapes past the edge and the mat shoulder loses density. Contractors typically see it as a ragged joint, a slightly narrow paving width, or extra hand work behind the screed at the end of the day.

The usual workaround is to keep running the worn plate and compensate with the end gate or by narrowing the pass. Neither fixes the geometry, and both add labour cost that is far higher than the price of the replacement part.

• Wear-resistant working face. The retaining edge is cut from wear-resistant carbon steel, so it resists rolling over instead of thinning out within a single season of abrasive mix.
• Welded reinforcement ribs. Ribs are positioned behind the plate at the highest pressure zone, limiting the flex that opens a gap along the seam between plate and screed frame.
• Matched hole pattern. Bolt spacing and mating faces are checked against the original part, so the assembly seats on the screed arm without re-drilling, slotting or field shimming.
• Thickness matched to the opposite side. Keeping the left unit level with the right-hand side maintains screed balance, which shows on the mat as an even edge rather than a stepped joint.

1. Raise the screed, support it securely, switch off the engine and release hydraulic pressure.
2. Unbolt the worn plate together with the left screed side and keep the fasteners for inspection.
3. Clean the mounting face, seat the new assembly and torque the bolts in a cross pattern.
4. Check clearance against the auger and run a short test strip before returning to full production.

The job is normally completed between paving shifts, which means the paver is back on the mat for the next night's work rather than waiting for a part to clear customs.

Each batch is checked for hole spacing, plate thickness and edge straightness before packing. A machinery test report and an outgoing inspection video can be issued with the shipment on request, together with video technical support for fitting questions. Machined faces are wrapped with rust-preventive film and packed in carton inside a wooden box or pallet, with marking to suit the buyer's warehouse requirements.

The same plate is shared across VB78, VB88 and VDT-V78 screeds, so a mixed fleet can carry one part number instead of three. For workshops and rental fleets that keep a small buffer of screed consumables, that simplifies stock planning without tying up capital in slow-moving variants.

Buyers are asked to confirm the machine model and, where possible, send a photo of the worn plate so the match can be verified before dispatch. Counterfeit and re-welded plates circulate widely in this category; rib placement and hole positions are the fastest visual checks.
